Something Rotten! Play by the Kirkpatrick brothers performed by the Philelectic Society

SOMETHING ROTTEN!

Congrats to Grace and the rest of the Philelectic Society on a fantastic performance of Something Rotten! Sam The Concrete Man New Orleans helped sponsor the Jesuit High School Nola, Philelectic Society’s play of “Something Rotten!” The Philelectic Society (drama department) is the oldest co-curricular organization at Jesuit. The Philelectic Society was founded in 1926 by a group of Jesuit students who shared a passion for theater. Over the years, the society has produced countless plays, musicals, and other performances, showcasing the talents of generations of Jesuit students. The society takes its name from the Greek words “phileo” (love) and “electic” (selective), reflecting its dedication to the art of theater and the high standards it sets for its productions. Jesuit pulls male cast members from their school, and female cast members from schools throughout the New Orleans Metropolitan area.

Something-Rotten

Beyond its artistic achievements, the Philelectic Society has had a profound impact on the Jesuit community and the city of New Orleans as a whole. Many Philelectic alumni have gone on to successful careers in theater, film, and television, including Tony Award-winning actor Bryan Batt (“Mad Men”), Academy Award-nominated actor John Goodman (“Roseanne,” “The Big Lebowski”), and Emmy Award-winning writer and producer Chris Mundy (“Criminal Minds,” “Ozark”).

Something Rotten! Written by the Kirkpatrick brothers of Baton Rouge. Set in 1595, the show tells the story of two brothers, Nick and Nigel Bottom, struggling playwrights who are desperate to outdo their contemporary, William Shakespeare. When a soothsayer tells them that the future of theater is in musicals, they set out to create the world’s first musical – but things don’t quite go according to plan. This hilarious mash-up of sixteenth-century Shakespeare and twenty-first-century Broadway is a Must see show packed with witty jokes, and catchy songs.

Congratulations to Grace Dietz on another wonderful show! Grace is the daughter of Sam The Concrete Man Owner Fred Dietz and currently attends Ursuline Academy! With Grace’s passion for theater, you can expect to see her in the next show! Stay up to date with the Philelectic Society so you don’t miss out!
